Biomechanical Assessments

Finding the cause, not just treating the symptom

Foot, heel, knee and even lower back pain often trace back to the way you stand and walk. A biomechanical assessment is a structured examination of your feet and lower limbs in motion — how your joints move, how your muscles work and how your weight is distributed with every step.

Rather than only treating the sore spot, we look for the underlying mechanical cause, so treatment can address the problem at its source.

What the assessment involves

  • Gait analysis — observing how you walk to identify abnormalities in your stride
  • Muscle testing — checking strength and flexibility in the muscles that support your feet and legs
  • Joint testing — assessing the range and quality of movement in the joints of your feet, ankles and legs
  • Footwear review — examining the shoes you wear most and the wear patterns they show

Children and sports assessments

We provide biomechanical assessments for both children and adults, including sports-specific assessments. Children's feet are still developing, and issues such as flat feet, in-toeing or growing pains are often best addressed early. For athletes and active people, small mechanical inefficiencies can lead to recurring injuries — an assessment helps identify and correct them.

What happens next

Depending on what the assessment finds, your treatment plan may include exercises, footwear recommendations or orthotics — inserts that correct your foot posture and gait. Correcting biomechanics in this way can also relieve knee and lower back pain in some patients.
